Why do you chew ice?

Stimming by chewing ice

I am delighted at the grandeur of the internet, to bring forth something so sweet as this website!

I want to say a couple of things.

Asperger's Syndrome is a type of High Functioning Autism. The autistic tendency has a constellation of behaviors that include "stimming" or doing something that stimulates you the way you like. Rocking. Biting things. Chewing ice. It's not bad or abnormal or wierd. It's just one of those things, like spinning, walking on tiptoes, lining things up. It's just seen in a lot of ppl with family members diagnosed in the autistic spectrum.

Temple Grandin is an autistic PhD. She noticed cattle calmed down when put in a press, squeezed on both sides. She built a press for herself and still uses it finding it very calming, the pressure. Like swaddling a baby.

I bite other things: styrofoam cups, pencils. It's about the mouth-feel, not the taste, not any craving for some mysterious missing nutrient.

Thank you for sharing your comments with me.
